System error! id=2 Reply

 My VP390 running on Windows XP, starts and self-tests OK,
but when I read, verify or program an EPROM (e.g. 27C64) it reports
"system error! id=2".
The programmer was previously working OK, with the same devices.
What does this error message mean?

 try run "help"-->"system update" to repair
